Yesterday in class students pointed out that the assignment asked for
handing in of large results in printed form, which I did not intend when
I wrote it, and I said that I would give a precise list of what to hand
in on the newsgroup. Here it is.

III.a - commands given plus results.

III.b - commands given only. A summary of the results appears in IV.a.

III.c - commands given only. A summary of the results appears in IV.b.

III.d.1 - commands plus results.

III.d.2 - commands only.

III.d.3 - commands only.

III.d.4 - commands only. A summary of results appears in IV.c.

III.e - commands given plus examples of results with an explanation of
how they are leading to your goal. Time taken, with short explanation.

IV.a - histogram plus interpretation.

IV.b - two ANOVA tables plus interpretation.

IV.c - ANOVA table plus interpretation.

IV.d - description of your investigation and reasoning, with commands
given and examples of results.

Hope this helps,
Bill

P.S. I will only be in my office today until about 14.30, so please ask
any questions early.

In the question for III.e, it stated "Within the overlap time, find an
accepted message in the ASSP log, and locate it in the qmail-send log."

To my understanding, because of the word "an", we only have to find one
such case. I was at the TA office hour yesterday, he confirmed my
understanding and also mentioned we can manually go through the log and
pick out the useful lines.

But you mentioned above to hand in commands given, does that mean we
have to write a script to retrieve all the overlapping messages?

Thanks

My assumption is that you find something in one log, then use --
probably search tools -- to find another thing in one of the logs, and
so on. I am interested in you giving us the sequence of things you do,
including commands you sent to the computer and why you chose to do the
things you did.

If I were answering the question it's quite likely that I would list
what I did in temporal order.

Hope this helps,
Bill
